Guillermo Umpierrez, MD, CDCES, FACE, MACP
Biography:
Dr. Umpierrez is a professor of medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, and the Immediate Past-President of the American Diabetes Association for Medicine and Science, 2022. He has been the recipient of numerous teaching awards for Best Clinical Teacher and Mentor at Emory University, and national awards from the American College of Physicians, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, Endocrine Society, Diabetes Technology Society, and the American Diabetes Association.
His research interests include mechanisms for beta-cell dysfunction in minority populations, prevention of acute and chronic diabetic complications, and hospital management of patients with diabetes and hyperglycemia. He is the author of more than 500 scientific manuscripts and book chapters, and has presented over 550 research abstracts at national and international scientific meetings. In addition, he is the director of the Emory Latino Diabetes Education Program, a nationally accredited Spanish Diabetes education program dedicated to providing diabetes education to Latinos.

Juan Pablo Frías, MD
Biography:
Dr. Juan Pablo Frias is Chief Medical Officer, Head of Diabetes at Biomea Fusion. He was formerly Medical Director and Principal Investigator of National Research Institute in Los Angeles, CA. He received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and completed his Fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Frías has held academic positions at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes) and the University of California San Diego School of Medicine, where he is currently on the clinical faculty. He has been involved in diabetes and metabolism-related research for over 25 years and has authored numerous publications in this field, including first author publications in New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology, Diabetes, Diabetes Care, and Cell Metabolism.

Rodolfo Galindo, MD, FACE
Biography:
Dr. Galindo, a graduate of the University of Havana’s Institute of Medical Sciences, completed his Internal Medicine residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and an Endocrinology fellowship at North Shore University Hospital. He began his academic career at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where he directed the Inpatient Diabetes Service and chaired the Diabetes Taskforce. In 2017, he joined Emory University’s Division of Endocrinology, working with renowned mentor Dr. Guillermo Umpierrez. His research focuses on diabetes management in hospitals and post-transplantation diabetes. Dr. Galindo serves as chair of the Hospital Diabetes Taskforce at Emory Healthcare and has received multiple awards, including from the Endocrine Society and the American Diabetes Association. His work has been published in top peer-reviewed journals and presented at major international conferences.
